Summertime, and our DHDP sandbox is open

…data’s jumping and the feedback [potential] is high

With apologies to Gershwin!

It’s still summer(!) and the DHDP sandbox is open for testing not one but two versions in the run up to January 2026’s fully merged product. This is a great opportunity for users to jump in and get familiar with the Platform and drive its future development for AI in precision medicine research.

v1.0f is go live in sandbox! v1.0c is coming soon!

What are we celebrating?

With six months of intensive development work completed, DHDP is releasing  two versions of the platform product to be tested! We are inviting users currently applying to our Digital Health Innovation Fund (DHIF) to test Platform functionality in a sandbox environment. These two versions have sufficient functionality to allow users to explore DHDP capabilities.

Integrating our tech partner solutions and a federated learning framework, each build offers a different approach to data exploration. Users will be able to test Platform workflows in sandbox using synthetic data and Federated Learning (FL) models. As these testers experiment with each version, our DHDP team will use their feedback to refine further development for a fully integrated, go-live version available for use in January 2026 by successful DHIF project teams.

Releasing two versions into sandbox in this next tech update takes us steps closer for full integration into the unified v1.1 DHDP product for AI and machine learning in precision medicine research across Canada.

  • v1.0c aka Core integrates our three tech partner solutions
    • Integrating Myant’s solution, Bitnobi for secure, role-based access control and query management.
    • Deploying CanDIG for federated data sharing and distributed governance.
    • Incorporating integrate.ai to enable privacy-preserving AI workflows.
  • v1.0f aka Flower Ai for Federated Learning (FL) will provide flexibility for a wide range of users, from those who do their own coding to those who prefer existing tools.

As an early demo for exploration and feedback purposes, Canadian SMEs (small- to medium-sized enterprises), researchers and data providers, will be able to explore the v1.0 platforms for data discovery, access controls through the user interface, and run analytics workflows. Each version  supports real-world testing of use cases but can run using synthetic data for privacy reasons. Data will comply with FAIR and OMOP standards.

It takes a village

It really does take a village, a pan-Canadian village, to achieve success. As invited users, DHDP members play an active role; their feedback during sandbox testing helps accelerate innovation and ultimately stimulate commercialization of Canadian research discoveries in digital health.

We are here! DHDP development timeline

And that’s also true for the development that’s led to these two versions. Since December 2024, our three technical partners and consultants have put in more than 14,000 hours of Platform development, moving the initial concepts closer to full product. With input from our users to help refine and inform the Platform's development over the next few months, v1.1 launching in January 2026 will reflect the value that our community brings. Users and developers from every part of our ecosystem are contributing to the development of a Platform that reflects the contributions of our DHDP villagers. And together they're accelerating healthcare data sharing security and privacy for precision medicine research.

"We're not just a part of the Digital Health and Discovery Platform, we are a driving force. With the acquisition of Bitnobi, we have integrated a powerful, privacy-protected data-sharing solution into the DHDP's core. Now, as we enter sandbox testing, the future of precision medicine is in our hands. User feedback is a critical step; it's how we ensure this pan-Canadian solution delivers on its promise to transform digital health research."

Tony Chahine, CEO, Myant Corp.

“Collaborating on the DHDP project has been a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative initiative in Canadian health care. For us, it is incredibly rewarding to co-develop solutions that not only meet rigorous research standards but also embrace adaptability for diverse user needs. The collaborative spirit of the DHDP team has made it possible to push boundaries and deliver technology that’s truly impactful.”
